ABOUT THE COURSE
This practical course will help individuals to identify the causes of stress and work through them systematically using targeted skills and techniques. It will help them to recognise and manage their reactions to stress, proactively manage and reduce stress, prioritise time, adapt to stressful situations and regain a sense of control by changing expectations and attitudes. The course will take place over a period of seven weeks and will cover the following modules:
Module 1 - The Nature of Stress & Stress Management
Module 2 - Causes and Symptoms of Stress
Module 3 - Work Related Stress and the Role of the Breath in Stress Management
Module 4 - Cognitive Theory Behavioural Therapy in Theory and Practice
Module 5 - The Social Costs of Stress
Module 6 - How to Cultivate Positive Thoughts and Feelings
Module 7 - Lifestyle and Self care

FIRST AID FOR MENTAL HEALTH - TUTOR LED COURSE (Qualification - Level 5 SCQF)

ABOUT THE COURSE
Who is this course suitable for?
This course is suitable for anyone who would like to become a Mental Health First Aider. It has been designed to help employers to provide a positive mental health culture within the workplace and to provide learners with comprehensive knowledge on a range of the most common mental health conditions.
What will you learn?
The course includes how to recognise and manage stress and understand the impact of substance abuse. You will also learn about the first aid action plan for mental health, be able to put it in place and know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace. Participants will also learn how to identify a potential mental health condition, start a supportive conversation and provide support and guidance to professional help.
Course Content
- What mental health is and why people develop mental health conditions
- The role of a First Aider for Mental Health
- How to provide support and start a conversation with someone experiencing poor mental health
- How to recognise and effectively manage stress
- How to recognise a range of mental health conditions and behaviours
- Understand the effects of drugs and alcohol on mental health
- The First Aid Action Plan for mental health and how to put this into practice
- How to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace
Assessment
To gain the qualification you will need to successfully pass an assessment which consists of multiple-choice questions and open questions. This will take place via Zoom as a one to one with Sarah (approx. 45 minutes).
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, you can receive either:
- RQF Level 2 Award: Award in Youth First Aid for Mental Health at RQF Level 2
- SCQF Level 5 Award: Award in Youth First Aid for Mental Health at SCQF Level 5
Qualification is valid for three years from the date of completion.

LEADING FIRST AID FOR MENTAL HEALTH - TUTOR LED COURSE (Qualification - Level 6 SCQF)

ABOUT THE COURSE
Who is this course suitable for?
The course is suitable for all persons within a workplace but would be particularly useful for anyone who holds a supervisory/managerial level position and who has responsibility for implementing a positive mental health culture and responsibility for First Aid for Mental Health within an organisation.
What will you learn?
The course includes how to recognise and manage stress and understand the impact of substance abuse. You will also learn about the first aid action plan for mental health, be able to put it in place and know how to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace.
Course Content
- Provide an overview of what mental health is, why people develop mental health conditions and the role of a First Aider for Mental Health.
- Understand how to start a conversation and provide practical support for a person presenting a mental health condition.
- How to recognise and effectively manage stress.
- Understand the effects of drugs and alcohol on mental health
- How to effectively use the First Aid for Mental Health action plan
- How to influence a mentally positive culture in the workplace
- Understand a range of mental health disorders and the support/therapy provided by professional healthcare providers (Depression, PTSD, Suicide, Personality Disorders, Psychosis, Anxiety, Self-harm, Eating disorders, Bipolar, Schizophrenia)
Assessment
To gain the qualification you will need to successfully pass an assessment which consists of multiple-choice questions and open questions. This will take place via Zoom as a one to one with Sarah (approx. 1 hour).
Certification
Upon successful completion of the course, you can receive either:
- RQF Level 3 - Supervising First Aid for Mental Health at RQF Level 3
- SCQF Level - 6 Leading First Aid for Mental Health at SCQF Level 6
Qualification is valid for three years from the date of completion.
