First Aid for Youth Mental Health - (Level 2 RQF/Level 5 SCQF)

Who is this course suitable for?

Youth Mental Health First Aid course is for everyone who works with, lives with or supports young people aged 8-18. It will teach you the skills and confidence to spot the signs of mental health issues in a young person, offer first aid and guide them towards the support they need.

What will you learn?

The qualification has been designed with children and young people in mind covering areas such as depression, self-harm, eating disorders and bullying, and will provide the knowledge and skills to identify a potential mental health condition, start a conversation and provide support and guidance to professional help.

Course Content

  • What mental health is, why young people develop mental health conditions and the role of a First Aider for Mental Health.
  • How to recognise and manage stress.
  • How to recognise a range of mental health conditions and behaviours
  • The First Aid Action Plan for mental health and how to put this into practice

Assessment

To gain the qualification you will need to successfully pass an assessment which consists of multiple-choice questions and open questions. This will take place via Zoom as a one to one with your Tutor (approx. 45 minutes) or if you are completing the course in person it will take place on the day of your training.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, you can receive either:

  • RQF Level 2 Award: Award in Youth First Aid for Mental Health at RQF Level 2
  • SCQF Level 5 Award: Award in Youth First Aid for Mental Health at SCQF Level 5

Qualification is valid for three years from the date of completion.

  • Further additional information and resources to compliment the learning experience and support self-study.
  • Access to a qualified Tutor to ask questions.
  • Upon successful completion of the Assessment, you will be sent a digital certificate.
