Sarah Shimmen -Workplace Wellbeing Consultant with a Specialism in Supporting Employees Affected by Long-term Conditions
I’m a Workplace Wellbeing Consultant with over 20 years’ experience helping organisations create compassionate, resilient cultures where people feel understood, supported and able to stay well in work. My work is grounded in long‑term conditions (LTC) resilience; supporting people living with cancer, heart conditions, diabetes, respiratory illness, chronic pain, autoimmune conditions and long‑Covid.
I specialise in helping organisations understand fluctuating health and the real pressures people face when navigating illness, fatigue, fear and change. My approach is strength‑based, evidence‑led and deeply human. I bring clarity to complex situations, confidence to managers, and gentle steadiness to individuals who need space to breathe, reflect and rebuild.
As a wellbeing consultant, trainer and facilitator, I partner with organisations across Scotland to embed wellbeing into everyday practice, not just policy. My work blends resilience training, LTC support, 1:1 coaching and organisational wellbeing programmes that help teams thrive, reduce burnout and build cultures where people feel safe to be honest about their health.
At the heart of everything I do is a simple belief:
Workplaces can be fabulous places to be — when people feel seen, supported and valued.
What I’m known for:
- Specialist support for long‑term conditions
- Strength‑based resilience training
- Compassionate, practical wellbeing tools
- Creating psychologically safe learning spaces
- Helping organisations retain brilliant people
- Social‑impact wellbeing work that genuinely changes lives
My approach
Warm. Evidence‑based. Human.
I listen deeply, tailor carefully and deliver training that feels safe, practical and empowering. My sessions help people reconnect with their strengths, steady themselves on difficult days and feel more confident navigating uncertainty.
A Personal Note
In 2024, I was diagnosed with cancer. Moving through treatment while continuing to work reshaped my understanding of resilience, uncertainty, identity and the emotional labour of navigating illness. It deepened my empathy, sharpened my insight and strengthened my commitment to helping others feel safe, supported and empowered, especially during life’s most challenging moments.
This lived experience now informs my work in a meaningful way. Alongside my workplace training, I offer support, advocacy and resilience sessions for people living with cancer and their carers, helping them manage overwhelm, communicate their needs and maintain a sense of control and hope.
My Values
• Compassion — meeting people where they are
• Psychological safety — creating spaces where people feel able to speak openly
• Practicality — tools that genuinely help in daily life
• Humanity — wellbeing is about people, not performance metrics
• Growth — supporting people to rebuild confidence and move forward
